Gor Mahiaโs newly-signed defender Michael Kibwage has urged his team-mates to use their opening day defeat as motivation to deliver success at the club.
Gor Mahia defender Michael Kibwage has issued a rallying call to his team-mates following their losing start in the FKF Premier League.
KโOgalo suffered a shock 1-0 loss to Bidco United on Sunday, conceding a last-minute penalty that saw their new Ghanaian coach Charles Akonnor get off to a bad start, in his maiden match of the season.
Kibwage, who is among a host of new players signed by Gor Mahia ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, feels the 21-time Kenyan champions shot themselves in the foot as they had the chances to win the match but failed to do it.
The former Tusker defender is, however, relieved that it was the first game of the season as it gives them a chance to correct their mistakes and also change their attitude for a title challenge.
โIt was very painful to concede in the manner which we conceded, but the good thing is that itโs only the first match of the season,โ Kibwage told Telecomasia.net
โOf course we would have loved to start with a win and put our campaign up and running, but we take the lessons and move on to improve in the next few games. I have no doubt that we will bounce back.โ
The Harambee Stars defender is drawing strength and confidence from the quality of their squad which he feels will bounce back in a major way and has promised supporters great things in the rest of the season.
โWe have a very good squad which is capable of dominating and soon we will get our rhythm. I know the fans are disappointed that we couldnโt win, but we assure them they will have something to smile about soon,โ added the ex-AFC Leopards man.
Gor Mahia have a tricky match against Sofapaka coming up on Saturday September 27 and must win to avoid getting on the wrong side of their ever-demanding supporters, who watched in disappointment as they went trophyless last season.
