The body of a Kenyan police officer who was killed while serving in the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) in Haiti will arrive in Nairobi on Friday, September 26, 2025.

Confirming the repatriation, the National Police Service (NPS) said that the officer, identified as Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve, was a member of the National Police Service’s Rapid Deployment Unit.

The 41-year-old Corporal died in a road accident during a peacekeeping operation on 31st August 2025.

Reports indicate that Nzuve died in a crash along the Kenscoff-Petion-Ville road at Perlerin 9 and was taken to Lambert Sante Hospital, where he passed on.

“NPS remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Kenyans, residents, visitors, and their property. Furthermore, we are dedicated to achieving the mandate of the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti in full compliance with international law,” stated NPS.

The statement comes amidst controversial announcements after President William Ruto on Tuesday announced during a United Nations Council meeting that officer Benedict Kabiru died in Haiti, despite the family saying they were unaware.

President Ruto on Tuesday announced that Kabiru is among three Kenyan security officers who have lost their lives while on duty in Haiti.

The family hence moved to court, claiming information had been withheld by the Attorney General’s office.

The Attorney General’s office later told the court that it is not aware of Kabiru’s death, who is suspected to have been killed by armed gangs in March 2025. Months later, the NPS had yet to confirm his death, saying a search is continuing.

On Thursday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said the delay in announcing the death of Kabiru in Haiti was as a result of synchronisation of relaying information from security agencies based in Haiti to Kenyan Authorities.

Speaking in Garissa County during the 46th Jukwaa la Usalama Security Baraza, CS Murkomen says a team from the National Police Service passed the information to the family on Wednesday evening, after President Ruto officially confirmed the demise of the slain cop.

“In a tragic turn of events, the National Police Service received information regarding the death of the missing police officer, and the family has been notified,” the Service said in a statement released Thursday.
