Media personalities Presenter Kai and his wife Diana have opened up about their inspiring love and career journey during an interview with Dr. Ofweneke on Dr. Ofweneke Tonight aired on TV47.
Kai, who has steadily built his name in the media industry, recalled how tough the road was after graduating in 2018.
โI looked for a job in Mombasa but couldnโt find one. Luckily, there was a TV station just starting, so I went to ask for a news anchor job.
Instead, they gave me a job in production, but without pay. I took it because I didnโt want to go back home.
At least they provided us with food, and my brother supported me during that time,โ he narrated.
Later, through a friend, he got a contact at a radio station in Kilifi, where he was invited for an interview and eventually offered a news anchor position. But again, he worked for two years without pay.

โI resigned and decided to look for something different. A friend of mine had cameras, so whenever he got gigs, he called me. Thatโs when I told myself, โLet me create my own company.โ I called it Kai Media Production. I had no equipment, so I would hire people who had. I became more of a broker,โ Kai said.

His breakthrough came in Nakuru after landing a producer and editor role at a local station. Still, his dream was to appear on screen.
โI took a proposal to my boss, explaining that I wanted to do a show. He agreed and gave me 10 minutes air time.
I started in March, but the show only aired in July. When it finally went on air, people loved it. In our staff group, someone called Professor Mikey commented, saying, โThis show is doing so well, it has a lot of views.โ When I checked, the โmanyโ views were only 40.
I told myself, โI have to do something here so that they can know what many actually means,โโ he said.
Viewership grew, and fans demanded more airtime. The show expanded from 10 minutes to 30 minutes, building Kaiโs brand.
After two years, he left to pursue independent opportunities. But one of the defining moments in his life came at an awards ceremony.
Initially, Kai didnโt want to attend, but his friends convinced him.
โJust when we got to the gate, my category was being called. Guess who was on stage? My wife.โ Kai said referring to Diana whom they had just started talking at the time.
โShe was the MC that day. At first, she looked familiar, but I couldnโt place her. When I checked her WhatsApp status, I saw she had updated that she was in Nakuru. Thatโs when I knew it was her,โ Kai revealed.
Diana, on her part, shared how their story unfolded.
โWe had been talking for some time, mostly on Instagram. Kai was the one who reached out first by reacting to my posts. I didnโt post a lot, mostly work-related content, and he would tell me, โGood job, but make sure next time the camera doesnโt shake.โ
My mum loved his program so much. Sheโs actually the one who introduced me to him,โ Diana said.
She added that her mother encouraged her to seek a job at the station where Kai worked.
โI asked Kai to send me his number on Instagram because I needed to talk to him.
โThe first time we met physically was on that day of the awards,โ she recalled.

What touched Kai most was Dianaโs loyalty.
โI donโt have anyone else to love; itโs just her. The reason I love her more is because she stayed by my side even after knowing my true self. Others could have left,โ he said.
Diana even surprised him with a car, which she said was never about clout.
โI bought him the car because he needed it. For him, the car is a necessity, not a luxury,โ she explained.

Looking back, Diana summed it up simply: โI knew eventually journalism would pay off for me because thatโs what I really love doing. Even now, as much as we do the posting, we do it professionally and ethically.โ
