The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has recognised Dr Margaret Awino Ong’ale for her outstanding academic and professional achievements.

In a ceremony held on Saturday, August 9, at the Weston Hotel in Nairobi, the DCI celebrated Dr. Margaret for her new professional milestones, where she officially launched her book, Transforming the Law Enforcers, shortly after being awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy.

The officer, a long-serving DCI officer, now joins the growing ranks of women in uniform who are pushing boundaries in policing, education, and leadership.

With over 16 years of experience in Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Dr Margaret’s contribution has helped shape policy reforms across the country.

She currently serves as the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO), where she plays a key role in managing investigations, promoting ethical policing, and strengthening institutional accountability.

Her academic qualifications include a PhD in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration, a Master’s degree and a First-Class Honours bachelor’s degree in security management and Police Studies.

She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Forensic Science, a Diploma in Crime Management and Prevention, and is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).

Her newly-launched book Transforming the Law Enforcers outlines a vision for reforming law enforcement through justice, ethics and effective leadership, blending research with practical recommendations.

The book is aimed at guiding police transformation and inspiring a new approach to public service.

Beyond her official duties, Dr. Margaret actively mentors young officers and contributes to policy discussions on security and justice reform in Kenya and the wider East African region.

She is also a member of Association of Women In Safety Excellence (WISE).
