That is why he offered some key advice to newcomers Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Matheus Cunha. He believes that, regardless of their talent, they must be mentally prepared to handle the pressure at Manchester United.

“Everyone’s going to hate you, so mental strength is definitely going to play a big part. You’ve got to act like you’re in a playground, not in front of packed stands. That’s something we’ve struggled with for the last ten years,” the 32-year-old Maguire said on the ‘Rio Ferdinand Presents’ podcast.

The centre-back urged Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo to be ‘oblivious’ like Bruno Fernandes: “He’s a perfect example. He doesn’t care what anyone thinks or says and believes in his ability, which he shows on the pitch.

“I see a lot of players at Manchester United who succeed for a year or two. And then, after the second year, they start to be questioned, and their form drops.

“It happens often, and that’s why it’s so important to have good support around you, a good family around you. But, obviously, some players come from different countries and don’t have that.”

Harry Maguire explained that the immense pressure at the club is also the reason he plays better for the national team. “There’s more scrutiny on Manchester United, simply because a lot of people hate us. It’s a fact.”

Harry Maguire expressed his belief that nobody in the Premier League likes Manchester United or wants to see them succeed, adding that the club faces more scrutiny compared to the England national team, which he said everyone rallies behind.
