Over 270 golfers are preparing to compete at the par-73 Ruiru Sports Club this weekend in the Annual Legendary Golf Tournament, an event that continues to attract a growing number of participants and sponsors each year.

The contest will unfold on a course that has become a focal point for corporate-backed sporting events, and the day will culminate in a prize-giving gala filled with live band performances and an atmosphere of celebration.

In the run-up to the event, Ruiru Club Captain Justus Mathenge emphasised that both the course and the wider arrangements have been finely tuned, with corporate partnerships ensuring an elevated experience for players and fans alike.

โ€œWe are excited to welcome some of golfโ€™s leading figures to Ruiru for the Legendary Golf Day. This collaboration with top corporate partners allows us to offer a memorable experience, with attractive prizes up for grabs. Our course is in excellent condition, providing the perfect stage for talent to shine,โ€ Mathenge noted.

The dayโ€™s schedule will see the first group of golfers take to the 18-hole course at 6:40 am, followed by a second round of tee-offs at 10:50 am.

The event has received sponsorship from major firms, including First Assurance and Kingdom Bank, further reinforcing its profile as one of the standout tournaments on Kenyaโ€™s golfing calendar.

Attention will naturally fall on defending champion James Njogu, who is also a founder of the Legendary Golfers.

His preparations have been focused, and he has expressed full confidence in his readiness to repeat last yearโ€™s success.

โ€œMy swing is in perfect condition, and I feel ready to defend the title,โ€ affirmed Njogu.

The competition will also feature a strong line-up of challengers. Among them is Ruiru-based golfer Grace Miano, who made headlines earlier this month by clinching the overall ladiesโ€™ crown at the September Pendant Golf event with a net score of 70.

Looking ahead, she explained that her form and confidence are at their peak following her recent triumph.

โ€œBuilding on my recent success against the countryโ€™s best amateurs, Iโ€™m eager to compete in what promises to be a highly competitive tournament. My form and confidence are strong, and Iโ€™m aiming to make a mark from the very start,โ€ Miano shared.

Also in contention are long-hitting single handicapper John Mburu and the consistent Nathaniel Nguithi, both of whom are expected to deliver strong performances.

Their participation, combined with the presence of seasoned champions and rising talents, sets the stage for a fiercely contested day of golf.

The Legendary Golf Tournament is part of a broader programme at Ruiru Sports Club, which has already hosted several major corporate gatherings this year.

Earlier, the club welcomed large-scale events organised by institutions such as IPF at its Thika Road venue, strengthening its reputation as both a sporting and social hub.

This weekendโ€™s tournament will therefore serve not only as a competition for titles but also as a celebration of community, sport, and corporate support.

With so many golfers eager to make their mark, Ruiru is set to once again showcase why it has become a centrepiece of Kenyaโ€™s golfing landscape.
