Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka has been tasked to unite the ‘Mulembe Nation’ ahead of the 2027 elections.

Governor Lusaka, seen as the emerging Luhya supremo, has been championing for a united Luhya nation and calling for concerted efforts to fight for power.

Lusaka, a second term governor and a career administrator, is a close ally of President William Ruto and one of the unifying figures in the larger western Kenya who has the ear of the region’s top politicians.

For instance, he works closely with National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, all members of the Ford Kenya party, besides being in good relationship with Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

On Tuesday, August 5, he played host to Roots Party leader Prof George Wajackoyah at his Bungoma office where the two leaders talked about the ever-elusive Luhya unity.

At the meeting, Prof Wajackoyah, a presidential candidate in the last elections, asked Lusaka to take the lead in uniting the region.

“Today, I had the pleasure of hosting my brother Prof. George Wajackoyah. We had a candid conversation touching on a range of issues, including the need for Luhya leaders to engage one another with mutual respect, even when we hold differing political views,” said Lusaka in a statement seen by Mulembe News.

“He encouraged me to take a leading role in uniting leaders from our Western region — a call I fully embrace,” he reveled.

According to Lusaka, they agreed on the need to initiate open dialogue forums that would bring together all leaders for honest and constructive conversations.

On his part, Prof Wajackoyah acknowledged the invite from Lusaka and echoed the Governor’s sentiments on their discussions.

“An invite by the Governor of Bungoma Hon Kenneth Lusaka at his offices this morning. I have requested the governor to convene a meeting of our leaders from western,” Prof Wajackoya said in a brief statement.

The law scholar has been a vocal advocate of inclusive politics and an active player in uniting the Luhya region.

Since plunging into national politics, Wajackoyah has fashioned himself as a champion of new practical ideas on how to take the country to the next level.
