Dr. Julius Mambili, the Chief Principal of Kakamega School, has officially announced his retirement, drawing the curtain on a transformative two-and-a-half-year tenure marked by academic excellence and remarkable infrastructural development.

In a heartfelt letter addressed to parents and guardians, Dr. Mambili confirmed that July 31, 2025, was his final day in office.

His departure, he acknowledged, may come as a surprise to some stakeholders, but he expressed confidence that the systems in place would ensure continuity in the schoolโ€™s success.

โ€œAllow me to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for your unwavering support during the past two and a half years. I do not take it for granted that you entrusted your sons into my care, not only as learners but also as young men whose growth and success we nurtured together. I am confident that they have within them all it takes to realize their God-given potential,โ€ he stated.

Dr. Mambili took the opportunity to thank parents for their unwavering support and trust during his tenure, emphasising the shared responsibility in nurturing students not just academically, but as responsible young men prepared to realise their full potential.

Under his leadership, Kakamega School posted one of its best KCSE performances in recent years.

The majority of last yearโ€™s candidates earned placements in prestigious academic courses at top-tier universities both in Kenya and abroad.

He expressed confidence that this yearโ€™s candidates are poised to excel even further, provided they remain disciplined and focused.

Beyond academics, Dr. Mambili oversaw major strides in student welfare and infrastructure.

Notable projects completed during his tenure include the drilling of a second borehole, construction of a modern ablution block, six new tuition blocks, a 25 KVA solar power plant, and additional water points across dormitory and field areas.

The school also commenced the construction of a modern ICT libraryโ€”currently 70% completeโ€”and built two new dormitory blocks. The school farm was also revamped to enhance food sustainability and learning.

โ€œThe system I leave behind is functional and capable of delivering its mandate effectively. I urge you to guide your sons to embrace this change positively, and to continue extending your support to the new administration as they take up the mantle from tomorrow,โ€ he said.

However, these achievements were not without challenges.

Dr. Mambili cited reduced government capitation and widespread economic hardships that limited some parentsโ€™ ability to remit fees on time.

Currently, the school is owed Ksh. 28 million in unpaid feesโ€”a financial burden that he urged parents to help resolve to sustain learning activities at the giant school.

โ€œThese milestones, though significant, could have been more had it not been for unforeseeable challenges such as reduced government capitation and the prevailing economic hardships that affected parentsโ€™ capacity to remit fees on time,โ€ he noted.

In a gesture of humility, Dr. Mambili asked for forgiveness from any parent he may have disappointed and extended the same grace to those who may have offended him during his tenure.

Though retiring, he assured stakeholders of his continued availability for consultation and support. His departure marks the beginning of a new chapter for Kakamega School, as a new administration prepares to take over the reins.
