The construction of the multi-million shilling Kamukuywa Market in Bungoma County is set to be completed by the end of October, Governor Kenneth Lusaka has announced.

Addressing residents during an inspection tour of the site, Lusaka said the new marketโ€”designed to host a wide range of social amenitiesโ€”will transform the business environment in the region and offer relief to traders who have long endured harsh weather conditions while operating in the open.

โ€œWe want our people to trade in a dignified and more comfortable manner,โ€ the governor stated, assuring locals that the facility will uplift small-scale businesses and stimulate economic activity in Kimilili Sub-County.

Lusaka affirmed that priority for allocation of stalls will be given to traders already operating at the site, as a way of recognizing their resilience and ensuring continuity of livelihoods.

The Bungoma County Government has invested KSh 272 million in the construction of the market, which will feature an open-air trading area and multiple modern stores.

In a bid to further empower local entrepreneurs, Lusaka revealed that he and President William Ruto had jointly contributed KSh 4 million to bolster the businesses of mama mboga through their savings groups.

The Kamukuywa Market is among several flagship projects under Lusakaโ€™s administration aimed at modernizing infrastructure and improving the ease of doing business across the county.
