The Ministry of education has launched a pilot project for the new education system that is expected to elbow out the current 8-4-4 system. According to Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, the pilot study to be rolled out in 470 schools is meant to test the feasibility and validity of the planned curriculum designs.

โ€œA lot of planning is in place. We have allocated sufficient resources from the National Treasury to move this process forward and in working on this curriculum. No one should have any fear because we had a subcommittee costing the implementation of this program,โ€ he told Mediamax network.

The cabinet secretary revealed that the new system will replace the entire system from standard One to Form Four with a new Grade 1 to Grade 12.

โ€œWe want to keep an eye on the cost of implementing this curriculum so that we do not make a decision and then later on we cannot live by it because it is too expensive to implement,โ€ he added.

Matiangโ€™i sai that the program had been allocated enough funding and is expected to roll out in January, 2018.
