One of the largest sub-clans within Malava has come out to demand the leadership of the constituency in the coming by-election.

The Abashuu residing mainly in South and West Kabras and parts of Shirugu- Mugai wards have now declared that the MP seat which was wrestled away from them 30years ago, should be returned back to them in this coming by-election through their candidate Leonard Shimaka.

Speaking when they welcomed home their candidate in a grand public gathering at the Ingavira market which is the aspirant’s home turf, the locals expressed hope that Shimaka will deliver the seat, noting that they have been in the political cold for long.

Led by Juma Matsanza, the locals and elders called on the residents to fully rally behind the Advocate as he had what it takes to clinch the seat and deliver it back to them as they have been vying for it in vain.

“We as Abashuu clan which is the largest, have resorted that we fully support Lawyer Shimaka as our own and this time we believe in him to do us proud by returning the leadership baton back to the clan,” he noted.

The clan said it had reached on the decision following Shimaka’s development track record that stands

“Shimaka’s development record not only for the community but constituents is highly regarded and that is why despite we supporting his bid from the grass root level we have other voters from other clans who are also supporting him as their choice following his extended assistance to them,” added Titus Vutiya.

In a fully charged meeting where the young people came out in large numbers to show support for their own leader, they said it was also their time to have a young and vibrant leader who will not only represent them but ensure their needs are catered for.

They brushed off other leaders who are also vying stating that some were old and had several flopped capturing the seat, while the others had exceeded their ‘usefulness’ leading the government to retire them.

“How can we give another job to people who have been rejected by the system as not fit by virtue of age and mindset to hold office? They will not represent us at all,” they said referring to retired principals who are seeking to be elected as the next Malava MP.

They added that Shimaka by virtue of him being a law practitioner, would craft and present bills in parliament meant to improve the sugarcane industry among other issues affecting the constituency.

Shimaka who acknowledged their trust and confidence in him to be their next MP, assured them that he was prepared to meet his opponents in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and assured his supporters that he will carry the party’s flag.

“Malava is so special that it has been in government all through and there’s no way some political brokers who have a born to settle with the government for their own wrong doings can come here and convince and confuse us to vote for them,” he said.

He observed that Malava was lagging behind in education and health and promised to bolster the sectors once elected to parliament.

“Our hospital has been down-graded to level 3 from the initial 4 and our bursary allocation system initiated by the late MP is not helping our learners. I will upgrade it so that each learner should at least get Ksh.10,000 from the current Ksh.2000,” he added.

He lauded the continued support to the area by the government through Farouk Kibet and asked the locals to support President William Ruto’s second term bid.
