Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has come out publicly to defend retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, calling him the unquestioned political kingpin of the Mount Kenya region.
She condemned recent attacks on the retired head of state aand cautioned leaders against igniting divisions in Mt Kenya region by making careless remarks.
In a statement on Monday, September 29, 2025, Wamuchomba expressed disappointment over leaders from the region clashing for political mileage. She emphasized that no single individual controls the eight million Mount Kenya votes, reminding politicians that the community has historically backed different parties.
“It’s disheartening to see Mountain people attacking each other for political competion; this entitlement is too much! Before DCP there was Jubilee UDA, DP and Others. Nobody has the monopoly of the 8 M mountain votes. We said before;hatupangwingwi!” she wrote.
Wamuchomba lauded Uhuru’s leadership, noting that during his decade in power he was never impeached and never attempted to impeach his deputy despite political tensions. She argued that this reflected his ability to hold the nation together.
“Uhuru Kenyatta is THE undisputed King pin of the Mountain and he didn’t force it. At least in his 10 years RULE with all his FLAWS, he was never impeached and never impeached his Deputy. He unified the country. He’s now at liberty to bless anybody to take over from him even if it’s NOT me,” she said.
The Githunguri MP added that Uhuru had every right to endorse any leader of his choice as a successor, even if it wasn’t her. She questioned why some politicians were now eager to inherit a party they had once dismissed.
“And if all what was said about him during swearing in of KK Government is TRUE why do you want to inherit his messy party? Kwani inheritance is given by Force? Attacking Uhuru is Despising Kiambu and Kenya at large. I thought we learnt a lesson after the Mbuzi stealing Episode?” she said.
Wamuchomba cautioned that the relentless attacks on Uhuru insulted not only him but also Kiambu County and the entire country. She warned that leaders who demeaned him risked pushing voters away.
“Let it be clear, you attack Uhuru; you attack Kiambu County and we are watching,” she declared.
Responding to claims linking Uhuru to former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, she asked when such an agreement about succession had ever been made. She stressed that Kenya is a democracy where everyone has the freedom to associate.
The legislator urged Cleophas Malala and his allies to stop targeting the retired president, describing Uhuru as a statesman admired nationwide. Instead of belittling him, she said, leaders should work harder to surpass his record.
