Media personality Janet Mbugua has urged the public to abandon the notion of a “one-size-fits-all” life journey, arguing that personal fulfillment doesn’t always align with traditional milestones like marriage, children, a structured career, or even certain religious practices.

Mbugua shared her reflections in a recent video, prompted by the controversial phrase, “marriage hubamba mafala,” which loosely translates to “marriage excites fools.” While acknowledging the phrase is provocative, she used it to highlight a simple truth: life’s biggest decisions, like marriage, are not for everyone, and individuals should be free to define their own happiness.

The media personality pointed out that society has long attached immense pressure to benchmarks like completing a conventional education, securing a career, starting a family, and owning property. While these paths offer stability and fulfillment for many, she stressed that others find them restrictive or unnecessary.

According to Mbugua, true contentment comes from choosing a path aligned with one’s own values, not from conforming to external social pressures.

Mbugua strongly advocated for respecting the diversity of life choices, urging people to learn to “agree to disagree” without turning differences into division.

“Not every choice will make sense to everyone, and it doesn’t have to,” she said. She warned that treating conventional milestones as universal measures of worth can marginalize those who pursue unconventional paths.

Her perspective adds weight to the growing narrative among younger generations who are redefining what stability and fulfillment look like, emphasizing that happiness is personal and cannot be standardized by society. She encouraged a shift from judgment to understanding, asserting that diversity in personal choices ultimately strengthens the social fabric.
