Members of Parliament (MPs) allied to the Kenya Kwanza government have dismissed a report by the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) which claims that the Hustler Fund is politically expedient and economically disastrous.
The report, titled โFailing the Hustlers,โ alleges that the fund is structurally unsound, economically unsustainable, and politically manipulated.
Led by Mwala MP and UDA Organising Secretary Vincent Musyoka, the lawmakers defended the fund, saying it has brought significant benefits to Kenyans and should be praised instead.
โThe Hustler Fund should attract praise due to its visible benefits to members of the public across the country,โ said Musyoka during an empowerment drive for boda boda riders at Matutu in Kibwezi Constituency on Tuesday.
He also accused the opposition of misinforming the public and urged Kenyans to disregard such claims and instead take advantage of government programmes to improve their lives.
Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, who hosted the event, echoed the sentiments, accusing the governmentโs critics of lacking any development agenda for the country.
Also present was President William Rutoโs aide Farouk Kibet, who dismissed the fundโs critics as tribalists out to mislead the public.
Nominated MP Sabina Chege and Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi also weighed in, criticising former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. They claimed he achieved nothing during his tenure and urged the Kamba community not to be misled by him.
