The National Police Service (NPS) has shocked thousands of Kenyans after announcing that the much-awaited 2025 police recruitment exercise has been postponed.

The exercise, which was meant to kick off on Friday, October 3, 2025, and run until October 9, 2025, had been planned across 416 centers in all 47 counties. It was part of the governmentโ€™s plan to recruit 10,000 new police constables under the 2025/2026 financial year budget.

However, a day before the scheduled start, the NPS issued a statement confirming that the recruitment would not go on as planned. The postponement came after the Employment and Labour Relations Court issued an order in Petition No. E196 of 2025, filed by former MP Harun Mwau.

According to the statement, NPS and the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) are now seeking legal remedies to resolve the matter. They assured the public that the recruitment exercise will resume once the legal issues are addressed.

โ€œIn accordance with the court order, the recruitment exercise scheduled to commence on 3rd October has been postponed until further notice. We are committed to following the law and complying with the ruling,โ€ read the statement.

The announcement has left many Kenyans disappointed, especially young people who had already prepared to attend the recruitment centers. For many, this exercise was seen as a chance to secure employment and serve the country.

NPS emphasized that once the legal process is completed, a new date will be announced. They also reassured the public of their continued commitment to fairness, transparency, and respect for the law in the recruitment process.

Thousands of hopeful applicants will have to wait until further notice for their chance to join the police service.
