While most athletes have ended their season, a select few female track and field stars are in line for a bumper harvest at a women-only event in New York this month.
Faith Kipyegon and Tara Davis-Woodhall may have been among the highest earners at the 2025 World Championships but there is a chance to bank even more this month.
Kipyegon took home a total of $105,000 (Ksh13.5 million) from winning gold in 1,500m and silver in 5,000m as gold medalists were getting $70,000 (Ksh9 million) while silver attracted $35,000 (Ksh4.5 million).
Meanwhile, Davis-Woodhall walked away with $70,000 for winning gold, her first world title, after a dominant performance in long jump in Tokyo.

While most athletes have already completed their seasons, there is so much more at stake for a number of female track and field stars, including Kipyegon and Davis-Woodhall this month.
This is because the second edition of ATHLOS, a women-only track and field event is set to take place in New York on October 10 and it has a prize money of $60,000 (Ksh7.7 million) for the winners in each category. Second and third place will attract $25,000 (Ksh3.2 million) and $10,000 (Ksh1.2 million).
The event has races in 100m, 100m hurdles, 200m, 400m, 800m and the mile and from this year, there will be long jump, headlined by Davis-Woodhall.
The 100m will miss world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, who made a surprise withdrawal last month, leaving Africaโs fastest woman Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith, who won it last year, to battle it out with American Kayla White, Britainโs Daryll Neita and Zoe Hobbs from New Zealand.
In the 200m, Olympics champion Gabby Thomas faces a race against time after missing the World Championships due to an Achilles injury, but the race also has Brittany Brown, who won it last year, Amy Hunt, Jessika Gbai, Anavia Battle and McKenzie Long.
Meanwhile, Olympics champion Masai Russell and Alysha Johnson are the star attractions in the 100m hurdles while Marileidy Paulino and Salwa Eid Naser headline the 400m race.
Mary Moraa will meet familiar foes in the 800m with Olympics champion Keely Hodgkinson having been added to this yearโs line-up as well as Georgia Bell, with defending champion Tsige Duguma from Ethiopia part of the lineup.
In the mile, Kipyegon will also seek back-to-back wins as she renews rivalry with Jessica Hull, Susan Ejore-Sanders and Gudaf Tsegay.
The event is a brainchild of Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, who is married to tennis legend Serena Williams.
