The by-elections slated for 27th November in Kisa East come after the death of Stephen Maloba, who attackers stabbed several times during an event in his ward.

Speaking to Tuko.co.ke after returning the ODM party ticket, Abraham Ayaya said he is not a party member and he wouldn’t vie using its ticket. He said the party had unknowingly planned to blackmail his name.

Abraham further urged his supporters to remain firm and not be intimidated by high-profile ODM party officials.

He added he has been an active member of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya under Eugene Wamalwa, but not the ODM party.

In today’s letter to ODM Kakamega Branch, Abraham Ayaya said the party did not consult him widely on nominating his name as their aspirant.

He said it was unfortunate to accept their request, as he belonged to another party.

However, he said that at the moment the ODM party was forwarding his name to the National Election Council Committee, he was already an active member of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya.

This confusion comes after the ODM party had settled on Thomas Omurunga Eshuya earlier last month, who further refused and returned to the ODM council.

Eshuya, in his statement dated 23rd September, said that due to undisclosed reasons, he accepted the call by the party to return the ticket so that the party could hand it over to Abraham Ayaya.

Eshuya, who is also a comedian, affirmed that despite returning the ticket, he will continue being a loyal ODM member.

The ODM party is now at its peak to pick another candidate who will run using the party’s ticket.

The party has faced a number of issues in Kakamega County in the last few weeks when Governor Fernandes Barasa and Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera declared themselves the chairmen.

In addition, the Kisa East MCA seat has attracted several aspirants, including former MCA Joel Ongoro, who will vie using the MDG party, and Abraham Ayaya, of the DAP-K party.
