Wamuchomba, who is part of the Kiambu MPs who have been criticising the governor’s style of leadership, posted the photo of Nganga on her Facebook, accompanied by a message that revisited the deceased’s loyalty to Wamatang’i and his unrelenting support for the governor even when others complained about leadership issues.

She said the deceased, who worked in the Wamatangi Foundation that serves the community through free services such as donation of water tanks, transport, and computer training, died while defending what she said was a failed health care system.

The MP added that Nganga’s death was a painful reminder of how systems can fail their people and asked for accountability.

She challenged the county government of Kambu under the leadership of Wamatangโ€™I to fix the healthcare system to save lives.

However, hundreds of her followers did not take the message lightly. They accused the vocal legislator of capitalising on Nganga’s death to play populist politics to entrench “a fake narrative against the Kiambu health sector”.

Wamatha Ndungu:

Kindly remember there are very close people who are mourning Sammy… He was a husband, daddy…. name it…He was not neglected, he passed while undergoing treatment…Be human.

BSP Simon Boro:

May our dear brother rest in Peace. We should avoid politics in some cases, such as death; let us pray for God’s Comfort to the bereaved family. We pray for all in authority. No one is perfect…in due time, every work will be tested…Counting.

Godhasplansfor Patrick Kibe:

With all due respect…Hon. Gathoni Wamuchomba, the passing of Sammy wa Wamatangi is a heartbreaking loss that deserves compassion, not politicization.

At a time when family and friends are grieving, it is unfortunate to turn such a tragedy into a platform for blame and political point-scoring. True leadership is shown through empathy, unity, and constructive action not public attacks during moments of pain.

Obadia Karanja:

When your time to die comes, you will die; no one will stop you from dying, because there is one who holds the soul.

Kinuthia Wa Kibichoi:

Hon. Gathoni Wamuchomba HSC, MP, this is not right from a leader like you. Acha kupigia siasa na kifo ni wakati wake umefika, and no person can stop death. Even you yourself are not ๐Ÿ’ฏ Kwa kufanyia wanjiku wa Githunguri constituency kazi.

Kiambu County was hit by a healthcare crisis when doctors went on a strike in June 2025, leaving a huge professional gap in the facilities across the county.

The crisis deepened when the Ministry of Health transferred a whopping 697 interns to other counties

Governor Wamatangi responded by hiring 78 new medics to avert the crisis, but critics claim the situation has not been sufficiently mitigated.

Two days ago, a report by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) indicated that more than 100 newborns died in Kiambu during the doctors’ strike that began in June.

The report pointed out that 68 newborns died at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital between May and August 2025. In September alone, Thika Level 5 Hospital recorded 34 newborn deaths. Five maternal deaths were reported during the same period.

However, Kiambu County Chief Officer of Health Services Patrick Nyagah dismissed the report, arguing it was fabricated and exaggerated to portray Kiambu healthcare as failed.

โ€œThe claim that deaths have surged due to the ongoing strike is completely false, as services in all our health facilities have remained uninterrupted. After a few doctors chose to boycott work, Kiambu County Government immediately hired replacements to ensure continuity of services. Therefore, suggesting that neonatal deaths have increased as a result of the industrial action is both misleading and untrue,โ€ said Nyagah in a statement seen by TUKO.co,ke.

Last month, Wamatangโ€™I called out a section of lawmakers and activists from the county for allegedly colluding with KMPDU officials to frustrate his efforts to fix healthcare in Kiambu.

Nyagah shared the governorโ€™s frustrations in his statement, arguing the healthcare situation in Kiambu had been politicised by local leaders for personal gains.

He argued that the official report from the Ministry of Health shows Wamatangโ€™Iโ€™s administration had done well in managing neonatal deaths.

The Chief Officer further called out the health ministry for allegedly undermining the county governmentโ€™s efforts to deliver services to the people, citing the withdrawal of 697 interns as one of the instances the ministry has frustrated the Wamatangโ€™i-led administration.
