A 30-year-old man from Kisii County has captured the attention of many after announcing his ambitious plan to do a 314 kilometre trip to Nairobi with hopes of meeting President William Ruto.

The United Democratic Alliance party, regional office administrator Caleb Ondieki l says the journey is driven by a burning desire to directly engage with the President and share ideas he believes could transform the livelihoods of youth in his home region.

โ€œI believe the President needs to hear directly from ordinary Kenyans like me. Iโ€™m not doing this for fame or money. I have something meaningful to present that could help our people especially on environment,โ€ he said in an interview Sarturday ahead of the trip Monday.

He would be flagged off by the County Commissioner Joseph Kibet according to a schedule seen.

He would set off early on what he has billed as a five-day marathon journey taking him into an odyssey covering Kisii, Nyamira, Bomet, Narok before reaching Nairobi county.

Various themes are embedded in his trip among them environment.

โ€œFrom Kisii to Chebole (67km) I will run for peace, Chebole to Ololunga (69 km) do for water, Ololunga to Ntulele (61) I do for development,โ€ he said.

He would be championing environment, in the climaxing trip between Mai Mahiu and Nairobi, a staggering 54 km stretch.

He said he will carry only basic supplies including water, energy snacks, and a national flag.

He has been practicing at the Kisii University playgrounds in preparation for the trip which undoubtedly would be demanding.

The youthful champion said he has already sought official protocol clearances.

He remains undeterred and unbowed during the interview.

โ€œRunning is my statement. I want to show that we can go the distance for what we believe in,โ€ he said.

It is a journey locals have expressed a mix of admiration and courage for the feat.

Others said they would be watching closely to see whether his steps of hope will lead him to the doors of powerโ€”or to a turning point in his life.
