Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka has revealed how legendary forward Thierry Henry inspired them to Premier League victory against West Ham.

Bukayo Saka has revealed that a pre-match message from Thierry Henry helped Arsenal avoid a repeat of recent home defeats against West Ham.

Saka’s second-half penalty secured a 2-0 victory over their London rivals on Saturday, a match that marked Mikel Arteta’s 300th in charge of the club.

Saka’s goal came in his 200th Premier League appearance, bringing his total goal contributions (goals and assists) to 100 – a milestone Henry also achieved during his time at the club. This was Saka’s 55th Premier League goal, complemented by 45 assists.

When asked about these statistics and Henry, Saka told the media: “Thierry always texts me. He texted me this morning to remind me that we’d lost our last two home games against West Ham. He always pushes me forward, and I think he wants me to achieve what he did. It’s great to have that support from him, and of course, I want it too. I’m really happy with these results. I’ll just keep striving and try to win some trophies – that’s what we all want.”

“I don’t like to dwell on these things, but it’s a great achievement, and I’m really proud of it. 200 appearances for Arsenal in the Premier League is a truly significant moment. I’ll enjoy it, and it was good to score the goal and get the win,” said the 24-year-old Saka.

Manager Mikel Arteta also highlighted Saka’s “truly impressive” numbers, stating: “When you look at those figures, 200 games, 100 goal contributions, it’s incredible. His age, what he’s doing, the way he’s doing it, is also really impressive. These are the types of players we need to achieve what we want.”
