Gen Z-led activist and ODM Youth League leader Kasmuel McOure has come out to explain why he is supporting Raila Odinga’s call for the formation of a national conclave.
In a tweet posted on his X account on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, Kasmuel stated that the national conclave creates a platform where even a person from Marsabit can come forward and have a voice in national affairs.
He added that such a process allows ideas from different parts of the country to be brought together and synthesised into a single national agenda.
He noted that pushing the president or influencing policy as an individual is nearly impossible, but when forces are organised, they can effectively push for certain policies.
That, he argued, is the reason some regions see development while others are left behind, because organised groups are able to influence direction.
“What that does is that it helps push the president, since you can’t push the president as an individual, but there are certain forces; the most organised forces can push certain policies. That is why you see developments going towards certain areas and some not,” he added.
Kasmuel emphasised that the conclave presents a rare opportunity to bring together the church, the youth, and the people who create jobs, especially from the private sector and industry leaders, since government alone does not create employment.
He emphasised the need for these groups to sit together and hold constructive conversations, moving away from shouting at each other to genuinely talking to one another.
“this is a rare opportunity to involve the church, to involve the young people, to involve the people who create jobs because government doesn’t do that because government does not do that since it’s the private sector and leaders of industry and sit down with all these people,” he stated further
He also stated that a national dialogue is the most sustainable way to transform governance in the country. According to him, it should be boldly led by the youth, guided by the wisdom of the older generation, and rooted in the collective good of the nation.
As a close ally of Raila Odinga, Kasmuel went further to explain how the ODM leader envisions the process.
According to him, Raila has outlined that the conclave should be a structured dialogue process, with representation from all 47 counties.
The process should be organised from the grassroots, with 50 per cent of participants being youth and the other 50 per cent from other generations. These representatives would sit together, develop resolutions, and elevate the discussion into a national process.
