Police in Machakos County are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian early Tuesday morning in Yatta Sub-county.

The incident occurred at about 12.30am near the Miami area, close to Acacia Resort, along the Matuu–Mwingi road. 

According to a police report, a bus with registration number KBT 312V, make Isuzu, struck the pedestrian before fleeing the scene.

The victim has been identified as Alex Nzau Nzine, a 43-year-old man. Police said he was walking along the road when the speeding bus hit him. 

He sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Matuu Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Officers from the Matuu Traffic Base visited the scene and have launched efforts to trace and apprehend the driver, who remains at large. 

The body of the deceased has been moved to Mbaku Mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.

Authorities have appealed to members of the public with any information on the incident to come forward to aid the investigation. 

The case remains under police probe.
