Police in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, have launched investigations into the defilement and murder of a 12-year-old girl whose body was found dumped at her grandfatherโ€™s farm on Wednesday.

The girl had gone missing on Tuesday after leaving her family home to buy sugar from a nearby shop.

According to her grandfather, James Thiongโ€™o, she was preparing to make porridge for her mother, who is currently admitted at JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital after giving birth to twins.

โ€œOn that day, I gave her money to go to the shop for sugar before heading to the hospital to visit her mother. When I returned, her younger sister told me she had not come back,โ€ Thiongโ€™o told Inooro TV.

Jane Wanjiru, a local shopkeeper, said the girl bought several items, including rice worth KSh 60, two pens, and a local confectionery known as ngumu.ย

โ€œShe also asked for a packet of uji flour, which I didnโ€™t have, so she left to look for it at another shop. That was the last time I saw her,โ€ Wanjiru said.

Officers from Ol Kalou Police Station visited and documented the crime scene before transferring the body to a local funeral home.

Nyandarua County Police Commander Stella Cherono confirmed that detectives are pursuing key leads in the case.ย

โ€œWe have not made any arrests yet, but investigations are ongoing to ensure the perpetrator is brought to justice,โ€ she said.
