Former Football Kenya Federation President Sam Nyamweya, has appealed to Kenyan fans at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) to show decorum to avoid sanctions from the Confederation of African Football.
He commended the Kenya fans for their solidarity and support they have shown Harambee Stars, which has propelled the team in its first 3 matches so far.
โKenyan football has always been known for its vibrant, colourful, and passionate supporters. However, in this international tournament, our passion must go hand in hand with discipline and respect. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has clear guidelines on fan behaviour, safety, and stadium decorum, which all supporters are required to observe.โ Said Nyamweya
Nyamweya called on fans to refrain from any acts of hooliganism, pitch invasion, or throwing objects.
-Respect match officials, players, and fellow fans, regardless of the match outcome; avoid use of discriminatory, abusive, or provocative language; and observe all security, safety, and protocols in place.
He added that any breach of CAF regulations can lead to severe penalties, including fines, loss of hosting rights, or even disqualification of our team.
โLet us show Africa and the world that Kenyaโs football culture is rooted in sportsmanship, respect, and unity. Together, we can cheer our team to victory while upholding the highest standards of conduct.โ Nyamweya emphasised
His sentiments come when CAF has condemned several security breaches witnessed in past CHAN matches involving Harambee Stars.
CAF has threatened to impose severe disciplinary actions against Kenya if fans breach security measures, among them being forced to play home matches away.
Kenya is scheduled to play Zambia in the last group C matches this Sunday at 3pm at the Moi Kasarani stadium.
