Homa Bay: President William Ruto had the crowd in stitches when he quipped that Kenya might be ready to help America sort out its healthcare woes.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 2025 Devolution Conference, the president had been briefed on the achievements of the newly launched Social Health Authority (SHA), a programme aimed at delivering universal, efficient and well-coordinated healthcare across the country.
Ruto noted that the healthcare system in the country is on the right trajectory, and will serve Kenyans better than before.

He added that he had recently seen US President Donald Trump struggling with healthcare matters and was ready to send over some Kenyan expertise.
Earlier in the week, Ruto met grassroots women leaders from Homa Bay, Siaya and Kisumu counties, where he reaffirmed his commitment to economically empowering women as a way to unlock their full potential and accelerate sustainable development.
Again, the president officially opened the new state-of-the-art Homa Bay County Government headquarters, a facility expected to improve service delivery and coordination of county operations.
From the Homa Bay State Lodge, he also assented to the County Allocation of Revenue Bill, 2025, and the County Public Finance Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2023.

Ruto explained that these laws will ensure more funds flow to counties, enhancing service delivery.
The head of state inaugurated the Ugatuzi Amphitheatre at the Homa Bay Arboretum, a premier lakefront conservation site showcasing a diverse collection of trees and offering panoramic views of the lakeshore.
He also launched the construction of a 588-unit hostel complex at Tom Mboya University Studentsโ Village, designed to house over 2,000 students.
The project, he said, is part of the housing fund programme and will be replicated in technical training colleges, medical training institutes and universities across the country.

In a related development, Homa Bayโs hospitality and transport sectors recorded a surge in business as the county hosts the 2025 Devolution Conference.
Hoteliers reported fully booked rooms, while taxi operators enjoyed increased demand as thousands of visitors arrived for the high-profile event.
Public transport providers, especially taxi drivers, benefitted from ferrying delegates from Kisumu Airport to hotels and the conference venue.
The Council of Governors indicated that over 11,000 delegates had registered by August 11, out of the expected 20,000 attendees.
