Police in Rarieda, Siaya County, have launched investigations into the death of a 23-year-old miner who was fatally injured by a stone crusher at a gold mining site on Thursday evening.
The victim, identified as Wycliffe Oduor, died instantly after the machine malfunctioned while he was operating it at Miriha village, North Ramba sub-location.
According to a police incident report, the equipmentโs sudden fault caused severe injuries, leaving Oduor with no chance of survival. Members of the public quickly informed area Assistant Chief Maurice Omondi, who alerted officers from Ndori Police Station.
Police visited the scene, documented the incident, and transferred the body to Lwak Mission Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.
Authorities are yet to establish the exact cause of the malfunction, with inquiries ongoing.
