Kakamega, Kenya โ€“ August 16, 2025 โ€” The immediate former Principal of Bungoma High School, Enock Andanje, has died while on the campaign trail in Kakamega County.

Andanje, who had taken an early retirement to contest in the Malava by-election following the death of MP Malulu Injendi, collapsed during a widowsโ€™ empowerment forum attended by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and President William Rutoโ€™s aide, Farouk Kibet.

Witnesses report that Andanje suddenly collapsed while addressing attendees. Despite frantic efforts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead after being rushed to a nearby health facility.

The cause of his death has not been immediately confirmed, with medics awaiting further examination.

Mr. Andanje was running on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in the highly anticipated Malava parliamentary by-election. His death is expected to impact the political dynamics of the race, which was already drawing national attention.

The late educationist was widely respected for his tenure as Principal at Bungoma High School, where he oversaw academic growth and discipline.

Political leaders in Western Kenya have expressed shock and grief. Musalia Mudavadi described the incident as a tragic loss to both the education sector and the political scene.

The UDA party is yet to release an official statement, but insiders say his passing leaves a gap in the partyโ€™s campaign structure in Malava.

The Malava seat fell vacant after the death of MP Malulu Injendi, whose demise triggered a competitive race in Kakamega politics. With Andanjeโ€™s sudden passing, analysts expect a realignment of candidates in the constituency.
