Huawei, in partnership with Hiperdist, KCB Foundation, and Digion/Smatrace Solutions Ltd., today hosted a Smart Classroom Workshop at its Nairobi premises, showcasing how digital solutions can transform teaching and learning in underserved communities.

The event brought together representatives from 20 Muslim schools across Kenya who are exploring the adoption of the Huawei Smart Classroom Solutionโ€”a digital education platform designed to enhance interactivity, accessibility, and learning outcomes through technology.

Held at the Huawei Exhibition Room, the workshop featured interactive demonstrations, school engagement sessions, and collaborative discussions. Attendees experienced hands-on use of the Smart Classroom tools and explored how to effectively integrate digital learning environments into their institutions.

โ€œAt Huawei, we believe technology should be an equalizer,โ€ said Maureen Mwaniki, Public Affairs Director, Huawei Kenya. โ€œOur Smart Classroom Solution is designed not just to digitize education, but to democratize itโ€”ensuring students from all backgrounds, including underserved communities, have access to world-class learning environments.โ€

A key moment during the event was the announcement that Steadfast Academy has committed to implementing the Huawei Smart Classroom Solution and will serve as a reference school, setting an example for others seeking to adopt similar digital learning infrastructure.

โ€œAt KCB, we are committed to supporting inclusive, future-focused education,โ€ said Ms Virginia Mwangi, SME Specialist & Relationship Manager for SMEs & Learning institutes at KCB. โ€œThis partnership with Huawei reflects our shared goal of equipping schools with the tools and skills necessary to prepare students for a digital economy.โ€

Ms. Virginia Mwangi also underscored KCBโ€™s commitment to leveraging technology as a catalyst for change, stating: โ€œWe are passionate about the transformative power of technology in revolutionising key aspects of our lives, especially education. By embracing innovation, we aim to unlock new opportunities, bridge gaps, and empower the next generation to thrive in a digital future.โ€

This workshop is part of Huaweiโ€™s wider efforts to foster digital inclusion in Kenyaโ€™s education sector. Earlier this year, Huawei, in collaboration with UNESCO and Kenyan government partners, announced the successful completion of Phase II of the Kenya DigiSchool Connectivity Project. This milestone brought high-speed internet access to 21 schools, including six institutions for learners with special needs, such as Machakos Primary School for the Deaf.

Aligned with Kenyaโ€™s Digital Superhighway Agenda, the project ensures no learner is left behind, directly benefiting over 10,000 students, and building on Phase I, which reached 6,000 learners across 13 schools.

Key benefits of the initiative include:

An evaluation of Phase I of the DigiSchool Program showed:

Powered by Huaweiโ€™s global TECH4ALL initiative, the DigiSchool project demonstrates how technology can drive equitable access to quality education. Phase III is in the pipeline and will focus on scaling access, improving teaching quality, and deepening digital innovation for all learners across Kenya.

The Smart Classroom Workshop directly aligned with Kenyaโ€™s Vision 2030, which prioritizes technology in education as a national development driver. It also contributed to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Chief among these is SDG 4 โ€“ Quality Education, through the promotion of inclusive and equitable learning opportunities. By equipping underserved schools with digital tools, the initiative also advanced SDG 9 โ€“ Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and supported SDG 10 โ€“ Reduced Inequalities by helping bridge the digital divide. Furthermore, the collaboration between Huawei and its partners exemplifies SDG 17 โ€“ Partnerships for the Goals, highlighting the role of cross-sector cooperation in achieving meaningful educational outcomes.

โ€œThe launch of the Smart Classroom solution aligns with Huaweiโ€™s commitment to deploying innovative technologies that connect people and make technology an enabler of productivity. In doing so, we contribute to key Sustainable Development Goals โ€” including enhanced connectivity, innovation in education, and equitable access. This ensures that students from all corners of the country have an equal opportunity to thrive and prosper, because access to quality education is a core driver of success,โ€ added Ms. Mwaniki.

By fostering partnerships and showcasing scalable technology, the event reinforced the power of smart classrooms to reshape Kenyaโ€™s education landscapeโ€”building a more inclusive, future-ready, and digitally empowered generation of learners.
