Murkomen, while urging Kenyans to keep rallying behind the national team, said the government is awaiting guidance from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on the required security measures to guarantee a smooth and incident-free match.

“We are waiting for the directions to the CAF, and once that is done, we will ask Kenyans again to ensure that they support Harambee stars and ensure that they abide by the rules, and see how seamless it will be,” Murkomen stated.

The Democratic for Citizens Party (DCP) leader is scheduled to arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday, August 21, following his trip to the United States.

In a statement on Monday, August 18, DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala announced that thousands of supporters are expected to assemble at the airport from 8 a.m. to welcome Gachagua.

He added that Gachagua will lead what he described as โ€œthe mother of all peaceful processionsโ€ from the airport to the CBD before proceeding to the Kamukunji grounds for a rally.

Malala said the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, has already been notified of the planned procession and urged the police not to interfere but instead provide security.

He further warned the government against arresting Gachagua upon his arrival, arguing that such a move could spark protests and disrupt the ongoing tournaments.

“If you apprehend Rigathi Gachagua the following day, you will see demonstrations, and yet the Harambee Stars will be playing on Friday, because I’m sure that if Gachagua is apprehended, we will not be able to see the Harambee Stars play on Friday for the quarter finals,” Malala said.
