The management of Friends Malava Boys High School are all smiles after Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi promised to complete the stalled two-storey dormitory at a cost of Ksh. 11 million.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary made the pledge when he hosted a boda boda operatorsโ empowerment programme at the school grounds.
The stalled project was started by the parents of the school and has been incomplete for some time, until Musaliaโs intervention.
The Chief Principal of Friends Malava Boys, Dr. Aliva Luvaso, while welcoming the Prime Cabinet Secretary and his entourage, opened up to him requesting assistance after the project stalled due to lack of funds.
โYour honor sir, we are delighted to host you here today and we are aware of your empowerment of different groups within Malava. As a school, we also have our share of problems, with the main one being where to accommodate the grade ten learners next year,โ he said.
The Chief Principal expressed concerns over the lack of adequate dormitories to accommodate grade ten learners, noting that the year was already ending and they had yet to find sponsorship for the project.
Luvaso expressed excitement when Musalia heeded his request, saying it would not only change the face of the school but also inject positive energy into the students and teachers to perform even better.
โThis has been our biggest headache, and we have been running up and down to see the project completed before the year ends. Your Excellency, I want to assure you that your noble gesture of agreeing to complete this project will not only impact positively on the students and teachers but also parents, who will continue to support your endeavors in the future,โ he said.
On his part, Musalia acknowledged the efforts the school management was displaying in terms of performance and said it should be supported to do even better.
โIโm aware that this is the only extra-county school within Malava Constituency and it should be uplifted to the required standards,โ he said.
He noted that the school was producing more university students and, over the last four years, had improved its mean score. He added that there was room for more improvement if it was properly supported, and assured that the government would back the school to prosperity.
The storey dormitory, once completed, will house 500 students and ease congestion at the school.
