Fresh off the release of his deeply personal memoir, Kid Cudi has returned with his 10th studio album, Free, which dropped on streaming platforms on Friday, August 22.

The 13-track project arrives without features, showcasing Cudi at his most introspective. It includes previously released singles like “Neverland,” “Mr. Miracle,” and “Grave.” The album follows 2024’s Insano, which debuted at No. 13 on the Billboard 200.

For the cover art, Cudi drew inspiration from The Truman Show. The artwork depicts him stepping through a doorway into the sky, symbolizing liberation.

“I wanted something that really expressed freedom, so the concept of me leaping into the clouds made so much sense,” Cudi explained on Instagram. “Inspired by The Truman Show. I can’t wait for you guys to hear this album and really see the art brought to life. You’re in for a beautiful ride. Promise.”

The release caps a reflective August for the rapper, who also published his candid memoir on August 12. In excerpts shared with GQ, Cudi revisited his struggles with addiction, including a near-fatal cocaine overdose in 2010.

“I was at peace with dying,” he wrote, describing the experience as both despairing and clarifying. “I was a lighthouse for others, but I couldn’t find my own way. It was peace I was after.”

With Free, Cudi channels that hard-earned clarity into music, offering fans both a message of resilience and a celebration of personal liberation.
