Speaking ahead of the event, Winfred Yavi revealed that based on the training she had been doing with her coach and team, she feels the mile steeplechase is going to be fast.

The reigning world champion explained that she already has a time in mind and just wants to execute, give it her best, and see how fast her body can go over the barriers, adding that the race will not be too different, as it will just feel like a normal steeplechase.

โ€œWhen I start, Iโ€™ll be going directly to the water barrierโ€ฆI feel like itโ€™s going to be an interesting event tomorrow, and Iโ€™m happy to be a part of history,โ€ Winfred Yavi revealed.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has reflected on the unique challenge Carmelita Jeter always brought to their head-to-head battles.

โ€œWhen I saw Faith Kipyegon, when she was trying to do the sub-4-minute mile, it really inspired me. The way Iโ€™m going to do this mile, I also want to inspire the younger athletes. Faith Kipyegon really motivated me.โ€

Winfred Yavi has been off to a great start to her season, and making history in Brussels will be enough motivation for her ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

She finished second at the Diamond League Meetings in Doha and Oslo, competing in the womenโ€™s 3000m steeplechase before claiming top honours at the Prefontaine Classic. Yavi also reigned supreme at the Night of Athletics.
