The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced that it has lifted penalties that were erroneously imposed on taxpayers who filed their income tax returns within the extended filing time.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 21, the Authority announced that it had completed the reversal of the charges for those taxpayers who filed their returns from July 1 to July 5, 2025.
KRA admitted the penalties were issued in error and and assured Kenyans that the mistake had been rectified.
โKindly note that the process of penalty removal for the year 2024 for all those who filed during the extended period from 1st to 5th July 2025 was completed. Please note that the penalties have been vacated,โ the Authority clarified.
The move follows growing concern among Kenyans who had complained of receiving penalty notices despite having filed their returns within the officially provided five-day grace period.
