The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned Garissa Governor Nathif Jama Adam to respond to charges of misappropriation of public funds and irregular hiring in the county government.

In a letter dated August 19, 2025, the commission said Governor Jama is being investigated for suspected irregular employment carried out in Garissa from October 2022 to June 2024.

EACC directed ODM governor to report to its Nairobi headquarters on August 25, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. for questioning.

“The Commission is investigating allegations of embezzlement of public funds and irregular recruitment of employees by Garissa County Government from October 2022 to June 2024.

“To facilitate the investigation, kindly avail yourself for an interview and statement recording at our Nairobi Integrity Centre offices located at Jakaya Kikwete/Valley Road Junction on 25th August, 2025 at 10.00 AM,” the letter stated.

The commission assigned the case to Simon Cherpka, its Assistant Director in charge of Macro Investigations.

The summons come just days after EACC Chairperson David Oginde revealed that nine governors are currently under investigation on corruption-related charges. He further noted that marginalized counties are the worst hit by corruption, making service delivery even more difficult in those regions.
