Security operations in Malindi have been stepped up following the arrest of seven suspected gang members during a targeted police operation in the Soweto area of Malindi Sub-County.

The intelligence-led raid, conducted on Friday by officers from Malindi Police Station, was aimed at dismantling organized criminal groups said to be behind rising insecurity in the region.

Police confirmed that the suspects were found armed with crude weapons during the swoop.

The suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete. Authorities say the crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to restore calm and enhance public safety across Kilifi County.

In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) reaffirmed its resolve to eliminate criminal gangs across the country and urged the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies. Citizens were encouraged to share information through the toll-free numbers 999, 911, 112, the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline 0800 722 203, or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.

Police have pledged to maintain regular operations in crime-prone areas, warning that individuals engaging in criminal activities will face the full force of the law.
