Deputy President Kithure Kindiki announced that the government is deliberately channeling more investments into the Harambee Stars and sports development across the country.
Over the weekend at Tarbaj Teachers Training College under the Tarbaj Constituency Economic Empowerment Programme in Wajir County, Kindiki reiterated that the government will provide the athletes with state-of-the-art facilities to develop their skills and turn sport into a career.
He praised Harambee Stars for their spirited qualification to the quarter-final level of the ongoing CHAN tournament, promising Kenyans that the government will continue developing the national team in anticipation of AFCON 2027 and World Cup qualifiers.
โWe are proud of what Harambee Stars have done for our country. Going forward, we will continue to motivate our players and the technical bench. We will improve their welfare and support them as they prepare for AFCON 2027 and the World Cup qualifiers,โ Kindiki said.
The DP further emphasized plans to upgrade stadiums and sports fields across the country, covering soccer, volleyball, handball, netball, and rugby, to give young people opportunities to nurture talent and earn a livelihood through sports.
Kindiki also used the moment to confirm Kenya Kwanza governmentโs commitment to deliver balanced development, noting that President William Rutoโs administration is determined to unite Kenyans through development projects benefitting all regions.
He highlighted the ManderaโRhamuโElwakโKotuloโTarbajโWajirโModogasheโIsiolo road, under construction, and assured that it will be completed on time to open northern Kenya to business and investment.
The DP also mentioned the LAPSSET corridor road connecting Lamu with Marsabit, Garissa, Isiolo, Samburu, and Turkana and described it as a game-changer for economic development and regional integration.
On energy access, Kindiki announced that more than 18,500 families in Wajir County are set to be connected to electricity under a Ksh3 billion programme. He further revealed that hybrid power plants worth Ksh500 billion are being established in Merti, Habaswein, Eldas, and Elwak to strengthen the national grid.
Other government initiatives in Wajir include the construction of fresh produce markets, affordable housing, and student hostels for Tarbaj Vocational Training Centre, Tarbaj Teachers Training College, and other learning institutions.
