The countdown to the 22nd edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon is officially underway, with the organisers unveiling the official kit and announcing new improvements aimed at boosting the race-day experience.

In a symbolic handover, Standard Charteredโ€™s Head of Brand and Marketing, Neema Gitau, and Head of Communications for Kenya & Africa, Mercy Kabangi, presented the official kit to Athletics Kenya President Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei. The marathon is set for October 26, 2025, at Uhuru Gardens, where more than 30,000 participants are expected.

Registration numbers have already surpassed 16,500 in the first month, placing the event on track to hit its 30,000-runner target ahead of the September 30 deadline. The event has also confirmed participation from 20 elite athletes so far, with organizers projecting a record 250 elite runners this year, alongside 363 international entrants.

The marathon will feature seven categories, including the 42km full marathon, 21km half marathon, 10km race, 21km wheelchair race, the 5km Family Fun Run, the CEO Challenge and the Corporate Challenge โ€” reflecting inclusivity from elite runners to families and business leaders.

Beyond competition, the marathon continues its strong social impact, targeting to raise over KSh 70 million for future-makers by Standard Chartered, the bankโ€™s global initiative empowering youth, women, and persons with disabilities. In 2024, the marathon raised KSh 48 million.

Organisers have announced several enhancements to ease congestion and improve safety. These include an exclusive finish-line channel for elite marathoners, separate finish points for the half marathon and 10km races, and a 30 percent expansion of the walk-off area. The medal and hydration teams have also been reinforced, and a photo-finish zone will be introduced for runners.

Athletics Kenya President Jackson Tuwei welcomed the measures, stressing that integrity and compliance remain top priorities, with elite athletes vetted by AK and adherence to ADAK and AIU anti-doping regulations.

“Integrity and compliance remain our top priority, with all elite athletes verified by Athletics Kenya. We also welcome the improvements undertaken by the Local Organising Committee, which will ensure the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon is a fair, safe, and memorable experience for every runner,” said Athletics Kenya President Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei.

Since its inception, the marathon has hosted over 300,000 participants and raised more than KSh 850 million for community initiatives.
