The Kajiado County Assembly Committee on Agriculture has commenced an oversight tour of livestock sale yards and slaughterhouses across the county, aiming to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and safeguard public health.

The exercise, led by Committee Chairperson Hon. Joseph Mutunkei (MCA, Ildamat Ward), began at the Kiserian Livestock Market and Slaughter Yard in Kajiado West. The committee will assess key areas including sanitation, infrastructure, revenue collection, animal welfare, and adherence to existing regulations.

During the inspection, members acknowledged improvements in some facilities but also highlighted persistent challenges that require urgent attention. They emphasized the need for maintaining high standards to protect consumers and strengthen the county’s livestock sector.

The oversight tour is scheduled to continue tomorrow, with visits planned to the Ilbissil livestock yard in Kajiado Central and the Mashuuru livestock yard in Kajiado East.
