Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has confirmed that the federation has not yet finalized the distribution of the KSh 58 million prize money awarded to the Harambee Stars for reaching the quarterfinals of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
While the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is set to release the funds, Mohammed emphasized that FKF must first settle its outstanding financial obligations. This includes fines imposed by CAF for security breaches during the tournament, which amount to approximately KSh 13 million, with one case currently under appeal. The federation has a 60-day window to address these penalties.
On player compensation, Mohammed assured that the majority of allowances have already been paid, with only a few players awaiting their dues. In addition, bonuses totaling KSh 232 million from President William Ruto have been distributed to the team.
However, the allocation of the CAF prize money remains under internal discussion.
FKF priorities include clearing pending obligations before determining the precise distribution of the funds among players and staff.
The delay has prompted inquiries from players regarding their share of the prize money. Mohammed stated that FKF plans to resolve the matter promptly once the financial obligations are met and official communication from CAF is received.โThe federation remains committed to ensuring fair compensation for the players while responsibly managing its financial responsibilities,โ he said.
The federationโs cautious approach reflects a balance between honoring player rewards and maintaining accountability in its financial management, ensuring that public and CAF funds are handled prudently.
