Former Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju has opened up about his decision to leave the Uhuru Kenyatta-led party, clarifying that his resignation was a personal choice and not the result of external pressure.

Speaking during an interview with NTVโ€™s Fixing the Nation on Monday, August 25, Tuju said he wanted the freedom to express his views without being seen as speaking on behalf of Jubilee or Azimio.

โ€œI left Jubilee so that I am free to air my opinions going forward without it being said I am talking on behalf of someone. Itโ€™s essentially stepping into a free space, and I can talk without worrying. I just quit the party to be free,โ€ he said on Monday, August 25.

Tuju said he consciously chose to resign from Jubilee to express himself openly without contradicting the party line.

โ€œNow I can talk on behalf of myself, and the party cannot turn around and say, โ€˜How can you say that?โ€™ So itโ€™s essentially stepping aside; stepping into a free space where I can talk to you now without worrying what Jubilee or Azimio party will say.โ€

Tuju, who resigned last week, ย explained that his exit was not the result of external pressure and there are no hard feelings.

โ€œThis is personal decision; just like I made personal decision to join Jubilee party when obviously the easy thing for me coming from Luo Nyanza was to join ODM where from the ethnic aspect of politics it would have been very easy for me to capture a position as MP for Rarieda or Siaya Governor but I made a conscious to work with Jubilee in the same way I have made a conscious decision to resign from Jubilee. There are no hard feelings,โ€ he said.

Tuju added that he has no plans to contest for any political seat at the moment, with speculation linking him to the Siaya Governor seat in 2027. He explained thatย his current commitments in Nairobi and responsibilities to his employees and family make him hesitant to pursue such a political move.

โ€œIโ€™m not inclined in any way to become a governor of Siaya County because Iโ€™m Nairobi-based at the moment, and before I make those kind of decisions, Iโ€™ve got several people working in my private companies, more than 100 people, and if I make any decision which is going to negatively impact on 100 families or more than 100 families, I have to be very careful about that. Thatโ€™s personal, but also to get the concurrence of my family,โ€ he stated.
