The Kaleta Project, a major hydropower initiative, is transforming Guinea’s energy sector.

Completed and fully operational since August 2015, the project was built by the China International Water and Electric Corporation (CWE).

The dam now supplies electricity to Guinea’s capital, Conakry, and several northern villages.

This project is a significant shift in the country’s energy landscape, which previously relied on fuel oil for over 70% of its power.

Producing 1.125 billion kWh of clean electricity annually, the Kaleta Project is one of Guinea’s largest hydropower installations.

Its importance is recognised on a national level, as it is prominently featured on Guinea’s 20,000-franc banknote.
