A young man in Nairobi’s central business district has confessed to stealing and asked for forgiveness.

Kevin Mbugua was caught in the act by county officers led by environment officer Geoffrey Mosiria.
Mbugua confessed to stealing the county dustbins and vowed never to do so again.

While kneeling on the streets, he shared that, if released, he would return to his village. He showed the officers how he took the dustbin and returned it to its rightful position in the street.

The young man said it was his first attempt at stealing and that he was unaware of the market where thieves sell the bins to scrap metal dealers.
Scared and tearful, Mbugua noted that he had dropped out of school in Form Two because studying was difficult, and he could not comprehend mathematics.
Mosiria noted that many of the dustbins installed in different parts of the CBD had been vandalised or stolen by unknown people.
He revealed that several thieves had been apprehended, but more kept committing the same crime.
