Talanta Stadium is steadily rising into a world-class sports venue promising an unforgettable Afcon 2027 experience for fans and athletes.
Talanta Stadium is fast approaching its final stages of construction as Kenya races to deliver one of Africa’s most modern football venues in time for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
Located at Jamhuri Grounds along Ngong Road, just 10 kilometres from Nairobi’s central business district, the 60,000-seat stadium is expected to transform the country’s sports and entertainment landscape.
The project, launched with much fanfare on March 1, 2024, is on schedule to be completed by December 2025, giving Kenya almost two years to prepare for the continental football showpiece.

President William Ruto, who presided over the groundbreaking ceremony, has been vocal about the importance of the stadium to Kenya’s broader ambitions.
“Beyond sports, it will be a hub for concerts, cultural festivals and national celebrations, strengthening Kenya’s sporting and creative economy,” he said on Thursday as per The Star.
Once complete, Talanta Stadium will complement Nairobi’s existing Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and Nyayo National Stadium, providing the capital with a world-class facility designed exclusively for football and rugby.
Unlike many traditional multipurpose stadia, Talanta Stadium will not feature an athletics track.
Instead, dedicated athletics fields are being developed adjacent to the stadium to cater to track and field events. This design choice ensures better sightlines for fans and creates an intimate atmosphere, in line with global best practices for football-specific venues.
The stadium’s architecture has also evolved from its initial “shield-like” concept into a contemporary, fully covered arena, complete with advanced lighting systems for night matches.
The facility is being built to meet Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards, guaranteeing eligibility to host international competitions and major tournaments beyond Afcon.
Talanta Stadium, also referred to as Talanta Sports City, is expected to be a landmark not only for Afcon but for future global events.
Officials project that the venue will attract major rugby tournaments, international friendlies, and large-scale concerts. With its state-of-the-art design and seating capacity, the stadium is poised to make Nairobi a premier destination for sports tourism and cultural gatherings.
The upcoming Afcon will be a historic occasion for East Africa, as Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania prepare to co-host the competition for the first time since its inception in 1957.
The completion of Talanta Stadium will symbolize Kenya’s readiness to step onto the global sporting stage, offering fans and athletes alike a world-class experience.
