Lands, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has hit back at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of spreading lies and attempting to undermine other leaders.
Speaking at Muruka shopping centre in Kandara constituency, Wahome dismissed Gachagua’s weekend remarks in which he allegedly referred to her as a “flower girl” in President William Ruto’s Cabinet, calling the comments baseless and disrespectful.
“Namwambia Rigathi Gachagua, hii siasa ya kuingilia viongozi wengine si ya uungwana na sio sawa. Tafuta kura kwa kusema yale utafanya. I have not sat down with him; I am not in his party or affiliation. I am serving the people of Kenya as Lands Minister,” she said.
Wahome went on to reveal that her fallout with Gachagua dates back to his time as Deputy President, accusing him of persistently frustrating her work.
“Mimi sijazungumzia mambo ya former Deputy President tangu atoke kwa serikali. Hata tukiwa kwa serikali na yeye, alikuwa ananisumbua. Yeye hajawahi ni-support. Alitaka kuniangusha kwa kazi yangu. Awachane na mimi,” she added.
CS Wahome reaffirmed her commitment to her ministry, stressing her close collaboration with Principal Secretaries and highlighting ongoing government projects under her docket. These include the construction of modern markets under the Economic Stimulus Programme, affordable housing projects, and the completion of Kandara Level 4 Bildad Kaggia Hospital.
Wahome warned that she would no longer tolerate attacks from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying he had crossed the line.
“Rigathi Gachagua anachokoza wengine akifikiria mimi nitamwogopa. Mimi si mmoja wa wale wanamwogopa. Amekanyaga laini yangu, na sasa ni mimi na yeye. Alisema eti mimi sina sauti kwa serikali. Yeye aende nyumbani pekee yake,” Wahome declared.
She dismissed the “one-term” campaigns being pushed by the opposition, arguing that those peddling the narrative are the ones headed for political irrelevance.
Wahome insisted that Gachagua neither represents the interests of the Mt. Kenya region nor the country at large, and she expressed confidence that President William Ruto will secure re-election in 2027 with majority support.
The Lands CS urged Gachagua to respect fellow leaders and seek political support based on his own agenda rather than through constant attacks.
