Nairobi, Kenya โ€“ September 9, 2025 โ€“ Police in Nairobi have arrested an American national after he was found carrying six live bullets in his bag at the Nairobi SGR station while preparing to board a train to Mombasa.

The suspect, identified as Terance Luvon Whittington, 34, was stopped on the morning of September 8 when security officers discovered 9mm ammunition in his luggage during a routine check.

Police said his motive was not immediately clear.

Investigations revealed that Whittington had been living with his Kenyan girlfriend in Utawala, Nairobi. Both were detained after officers from the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) were called to the scene.

The arrest disrupted their planned trip to Mombasa as police launched a deeper probe. Detectives are expected to search their Utawala residence to determine whether additional ammunition or weapons are being stored.

The seized bullets have since been sent to ballistics experts for forensic examination. Police emphasized that the outcome of the analysis will help uncover the suspectโ€™s possible motives and determine whether the ammunition is linked to a wider network.
