Andre Onana’s situation has taken a fresh twist as Manchester United have delivered their long-awaited verdict on his stay.
Turkish club Trabzonspor has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Manchester United regarding the transfer of Andre Onana, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The final decision now rests with the Cameroonian goalkeeper. With the transfer window in Turkey closing in mid-September, Onana has over a week to consider his options.
Andre Onana has currently fallen to third choice in Manchester United’s pecking order after sustaining an injury during the summer that sidelined him for the entire pre-season.
Altay Bayฤฑndฤฑr has started in goal for all three of the Red Devils’ Premier League matches so far. Interestingly, the Turkish shot-stopper was also rumored to be a potential target for Trabzonspor.
On the final day of the transfer window, Manchester United signed Belgian goalkeeper Sen Lamens, who is reportedly being groomed as a long-term starter.
Trabzonspor was also in urgent need of a significant goalkeeping acquisition after selling their previous starter, Uฤurcan รakฤฑr, to Galatasaray for โฌ33 million plus an additional โฌ3 million in bonuses.
Andre Onana joined Manchester United in July 2023, reuniting with his former Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag. In his first season at the club (2023-2024), he was a key player, appearing in all but one match.
He ended the season as an FA Cup winner after Manchester United’s victory against Manchester City. Throughout the 2023-24 campaign, Onana made 51 appearances across all competitions, including 38 in the Premier League, where he had 9 clean sheets.
He continued as the first-choice goalkeeper in the 2024-25 season. During this season, Onana became the first goalkeeper to win the Premier League’s “Save of the Month” award three times.
He made 50 total appearances and helped Manchester United to a runner-up finish in the UEFA Europa League. Over his career at Manchester United, Onana has made a total of 102 appearances and has kept 24 clean sheets. He has a total of 72 Premier League appearances with 18 clean sheets and 239 saves.
