Residents of Banisa Constituency will finally go to the polls on November 27, 2025, ending more than two years without representation in the National Assembly.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has scheduled the vote as part of nationwide by-elections, but in Banisa the race is shaping up to be a one-horse contest.
Residents have unanimously endorsed UDA aspirant Ahmed Maalim Hassan as their choice to succeed his late brother, MP Kullow Maalim Hassan, a decision they say will enable the legacy and development projects left behind by the late MP to continue.
Kullow died in March 2023 after a hit-and-run motorcycle accident near Capital Centre in Nairobiโs South B, leaving Banisa without an MP.
Locals say the absence of leadership has slowed development and muted their voice in Parliament and are now eager to see leadership restored.
Unless new contenders emerge, the November poll is expected to be a largely uncontested vote, bringing an end to Banisaโs long wait for representation.
Other by-elections scheduled for November 27 include the Baringo County Senatorial seat, and five parliamentary seats (Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja).
IEBC has given political parties interested in fielding candidates until September 17 to submit names with the official campaign period set to run from October 8 to November 24.
