Kenyan actor Blessing Lung’aho is under fire after allegations from his former partner, actress Jackie Matubia, resurfaced, accusing him of neglecting his daughter. Matubia previously described their co-parenting relationship as strained, claiming Blessing has been unwilling to fulfill his fatherly duties.
Matubia opened up about the challenges she faced after their breakup, admitting that she struggled with over-drinking and nearly neglected her children before regaining stability. She accused Blessing of being a deadbeat dad, stating that her repeated efforts to involve him in daughter Zendaya Nyambura’s life were ignored. Matubia also clarified that her attempts to engage Blessing were purely about co-parenting, not romantic interest, despite past statements from him about wanting a large family.
The controversy intensified when Blessing promoted an upcoming event on social media alongside fellow actor Joe Kinyua. Instead of supporting the event, netizens flooded his comment section, reminding him of his alleged absenteeism as a father. Messages criticized him for failing to be present in Zendaya’s life, overshadowing his promotion.
Comments included pointed remarks such as: “Mtu anaitwa blessing lakini amekataa kuwa blessings kwa mtoto wake,” “Zendaya looks like you dude. Why did you leave that sweet soul?” and “Usidhani tulisahau ulikuwa unaitisha pesa ya gas Jacky akiwa hosy.” Many users emphasized the importance of parental responsibility over public appearances or event promotions.
Matubia and Blessing’s relationship was once celebrated as a power couple in Kenya’s entertainment industry. Despite their split, Matubia has focused on raising her daughter and maintaining stability. Earlier this year, she shared her goal of finding a genuine and dependable relationship but emphasized that critics should refrain from targeting her children.
The backlash against Blessing Lung’aho highlights ongoing public scrutiny of celebrity parenting, particularly when allegations of neglect arise. It underscores how social media amplifies personal disputes, often holding public figures accountable for private responsibilities.
