Nairobi, Kenya –The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has been slapped with a $50,000 fine (approximately KSh6.5 million) by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over fans’ indiscipline and serious safety and security breaches during the Kenya vs Morocco TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) match held last Sunday at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

In a strongly worded letter, CAF warned that if such breaches persist, all Harambee Stars matches could be moved to alternative venues outside Kenya.

CAF’s letter outlined several security lapses, accusing FKF of failing to follow strict match-day safety protocols. These included:

“FKF must ensure full compliance with CAF’s safety guidelines to avoid further sanctions,” the letter read.

This hefty penalty comes at a time when FKF is already under financial strain, raising questions about its ability to meet operational costs ahead of upcoming fixtures. The federation will be required to settle the fine promptly to avoid further disciplinary action.

If the security breaches continue, CAF could ban Kasarani Stadium from hosting international matches, forcing the Harambee Stars to play home games abroad — a move that would inconvenience both the team and fans.

This is not the first time Kenyan football has faced sanctions from CAF over crowd trouble. Similar fines have been issued in past tournaments, prompting calls for better stadium management and fan discipline in Kenyan football.
