Mining and construction equipment manufacturer Caterpillar has marked 100 years of operations in Kenya, celebrating a century of contribution to the country’s infrastructure and community development.

The milestone was commemorated at Mantrac Kenya’s headquarters in Nairobi on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, spotlighting the company’s enduring role in shaping the nation’s growth.

Mantrac Kenya Managing Director Mohamed Ibrahim highlighted the broader impact of their work.

“When we build a road, we do not simply provide machines to lay asphalt. We improve lives, like the Kisumu Road that allowed fishermen to bring their catch to Nairobi markets,” he said, underscoring how infrastructure can transform communities.

Caterpillar Vice President of Distribution Lavanya Ajesh stressed the company’s commitment beyond business.

“Through the Caterpillar Foundation, we have invested more than 24 million US dollars since 2015 to support communities across the countries where Mantrac operates,” she said.

Adding;

“While our products may look different from a century ago, our mission remains the same: to power growth, uplift communities, and build Kenya, one century at a time.”

Mantrac Group Chief Operating Officer Nigel Lewis described the centenary as a celebration of people and progress.

“It’s more than products, it’s more than the yellow brand because turning 100 is a story of the people. It’s a story of turning dreams into reality. It’s about braving challenges to create moments like these,” he said.

Lewis also revealed plans to sponsor 1,000 pupils over the next five years, covering everything from classroom construction to water and power provision, including solar energy solutions.

Looking ahead, Mantrac Kenya intends to harness digital technologies and artificial intelligence to boost innovation and enhance service delivery.

Initiatives include AI-powered machine monitoring, remote diagnostics, and sustainable energy solutions, aimed at strengthening efficiency and expanding impact.

Since establishing a presence in Kenya in 1925, Caterpillar, through Mantrac, has played a key role in building roads, bridges, dams, schools, hospitals, and enhancing digital connectivity.

Over the past century, the company has been a critical partner in Kenya’s Vision 2030, and it now looks toward the next century with a commitment to growth, community upliftment, and technological innovation.
